Update: Former BJP minister Maya Kodnani sentenced to 28 years in the Naroda Patiya riots case

Former BJP Minister Maya Kodnani has been sentenced to 28 years in jail in the Naroda Patiya riots case. Bajrang Dal leader Babu Bajrangi has been sentenced to life imprisonment in the same case. 30 others have been sent to 31 years in jail.

They were all convicted by a special court on Wednesday, in the Naroda Patiya case of the Gujarat riots, in which 97 people belonging to the minority community were killed.

Ms Kodnani, a three-time MLA from Naroda area, who was considered to be close to Chief Minister Narendra Modi, is the first woman and first MLA to be convicted in a post-Godhra riots case.
