Two people have died after protests in Mumbai's Azad Maidan over the ethnic violence in Assam turned violent today.

The police had to fire in the air and lathicharge the crowds after a section of them burnt vehicles, including media vans.

Violence in Assam between people from the Bodo tribes and Muslim communities broke out after unidentified men killed four Bodo youths on July 20. In retaliation, armed Bodos attacked Muslims, suspecting them of being behind the deaths. Due to the violence, nearly four lakh people have been displaced and over 70 are dead in Assam.
