NEWS FLASH

Army chief General VK Singh has withdrawn his case against the government in the Supreme Court.

General Singh wanted the government to accept his date of birth as May 10, 1951 and not May 10, 1950. Records in the Army reflect both years.

The Supreme Court has disposed of his petition. There is speculation about whether he will now resign. If General Singh steps down, the Army will have to choose between Shankar Ghosh, Western Army Commander; V K Ahulwalia, Central Army Commander; and General Bikram Singh, Eastern Army Commander.
