Sensex falls nearly 400 points, Nifty below 5100

NEWS FLASH The Sensex and Nifty have plunged nearly 2.5% in trade on Friday. At 3:17 pm, the Sensex traded over 395 points lower at 16,840 whereas the broader Nifty index plunged nearly 125 points and traded below the 5,100 levels. Analysts attributed the sharp selloff to profit booking. Indian markets had run up very sharply in the last four weeks. Capital goods stocks led the losses. The index plunged nearly 5.5 per cent.
