The Congress has declared that it cannot "spare Dr Manmohan Singh" for the President's post and that he will remain Prime Minister till 2014.

The party has also rejected all the three names proposed by Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee and Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav for President. Alongwith the Prime Minister, they had listed former Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chaterjee and former president APJ Abdul Kalam.
