A passenger plane carrying 127 people on board has crashed near the Islamabad airport.

The Bhoja Airline flight from Karachi came down outside Islamabad's Benazir Bhutto International Airport, police official Fazle Akbar told AFP. The aircraft crashed into a residential area.

Rescue teams have been rushed to the site of the accident.
