NEWS FLASH

The Pakistan Supreme Court has held Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani guilty of contempt of court and has convicted him till the rising of the court.

That means that the PM will not be arrested or jailed - in a symbolic sentence that lasted about 30 seconds, he had to remain in court as the seven judges of the bench delivered judgement, rose and left the court.

Earlier this morning, Mr Gilani arrived at the court with a characteristic smile on his face and flanked by ministers and supporters in a big show of strength.

The court held him guilty of contempt for failing to act on its directive to reopen graft cases against President Asif Ali Zardari.
