March headline inflation higher than expected at 6.89%

NEWS FLASH India's annual rate of inflation for the month of March fell to 6.89 per cent from 6.95 per cent in February 2012. Food inflation, which has a weightage of about 14 per cent, rose to 9.94 per cent per cent from 6.07 per cent in February. Core inflation, or non-food manufacturing inflation declined to 4.87 per cent from 5.7 per cent in the previous month. Fuel inflation was at 10.41 per cent against 12.83 per cent in February.
