| The government has announced that Lieutenant General Bikram Singh, the Eastern Army Commander, will be the next Army Chief.
Lieutenant General Singh will take charge of the top Army post on May 31 - the day current Army Chief General VK Singh is scheduled to retire. General VK Singh had been embroiled in a dispute with the government over his date of birth and even took the government to court over it. The Supreme Court had, however, forced General VK Singh to withdraw his petition.
Apart from Lieutenant General Singh, General Shankar Ghosh, the Western Army Commander was being considered for the post. | |
