Dr APJ Abdul Kalam has refused to run for a second term as President of India against Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee.

"My conscience doesn't allow me to contest," he said today.

Dr Kalam has allegedly conveyed this to senior BJP leader LK Advani, who phoned him this morning before sending his emissary Sudheendra Kulkarni to meet the former President.
